Julie Hair shared this story in the comments on our review of Fire in the Belly: The Life and Times of David Wojnarowicz:
When David and I went to get the cow bones for the Castelli action, you could just walk up to the garbage bins on 14th Street and stock up. Years later I went back to get more bones for an ABC No Rio haunted house and it was like trying to get chicken bones from the White House kitchen. I’m all for good sanitation in our food but it just reminds me of New York during the time I knew David and how messy it was but how much more liberated and interesting it was as well. (AAaaarrrggh! Nostalgia attack! ) I know Cynthia has put a boatload of work/care into this book which I am anxious to read. Anxious is the key word there! ; )
